They call him Sonic, Sonic the Hedgehog.

Here is what you really want to know. Is it only for children?

No of course not. However, this movie is a kid-targeted action movie; it still has plenty of adult humor to go along with it. I mean, it's Sonic. Don't you remember some of the early cartoons of the witty super stubborn light speed mega adorable Sonic? Yeah but this movie in particular has a great sense of all around family. You pair Sonic with the character works of Jim Carrey, it is a win-win here.

Maybe you need a little more backstory on good ol Sonic if you can't remember quite off the top of your head.

Sonic is the iconic Sega video game character released in June, 1991. Doesn’t seem that long ago, does it? It really isn’t. But honestly it depends on how you ask now, some people are having that "oh that was only 10 years ago" when it in fact was actually 30-40 years ago .

Nevertheless this character grew so immensely fast, not only among children but adults as well that it has had so many rewrites, shoes, comics, books, and now movies.

In the summer of 1991, Sonic was everywhere! Also, if you didn't know, this is a live-action movie released in Feb. 2020. This is not animated by any means. Man, we sure have came along way in the movie industry.

Now on to the good part.

The famous blue hedgehog is actually an alien with super special speed powers that has put him in danger in his own world. His mama bird gets shot with an arrow and because she is worried for Sonic’s safety, she pushed him through a portal to our world where he can run and hide from what is about to be chasing him. Sonic has a personality of an extroverted soul with a passion for life and a sense of humor that pairs to no other. Sonic is extremely confused but willing to figure out how to get back. He finds himselfbeing more lonely on Earth than ever before.

The antagonist of this movie is Robotnik, an evil man who wants to steal Sonic’s supersonic speed and use it for his own gain to hopefully take over the world. Sonic soon finds himself in need of help from someone on Earth when he bumps into a local cop named Tom Wachowski. When I say bumped into him, I mean Sonic found Tom and started to spy on him. Sonic and Tom must capture (yes, capture) all of the gold rings that open up portals to any destination before Robotnik captures Sonic.

The real message.

This movie revolves around friendship and companionship. It might be an action and adventure movie but the story goes far deeper than our eyes can see.

Sonic shows us that even when we are alone, we do not have to be lonely. He runs through trials and errors in order to find this within himself and with his new companions.

My rating: 8/10

The reason I give this movie a 8/10 is because it is an all-around good movie. I could watch this with my 2 year old, as well as watch it with my 62 year old grandpa.

The graphics are amazing (let’s not get into what they probably would have looked like before the internet got a hold of them last year). The story line as a whole is wholesome and adventures too. I feel like this did not do as well in theatres as it should have because I would recommend this movie to everyone. Even if it isn’t something you would normally watch, I think you should go grab a friend, make some popcorn, put on your PJ’s and turn Sonic the Hedgehog on the TV and enjoy it!
